MFA overview

MFA uses a second method鈥痮f authentication alongside your password to ensure it鈥檚鈥痑ctually鈥痽ou鈥痩ogging鈥痠n to your account. This鈥�榙ouble check鈥欌�痗onfirms that you are who you say鈥痽ou are鈥痑nd can be done through:

• an authenticator app,听as number matching, a push notification听or a one-time code鈥�.
• a听text message.
• a phone call.鈥�

Why use MFA?

The University of鈥疌anterbury鈥痶akes the safety of its students and staff seriously and wants to ensure a secure digital identity.鈥疢FA helps us provide you with secure access to all Microsoft 365 applications听such as Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.鈥嬧�嬧�嬧�嬧��

Over the years,听there have been significant cyberattacks against听higher education institutions听and further education. As a result of these incidents, disruptions have occurred during critical times, such as during exam results, clearances, and enrolment periods.听

One of the most powerful methods we can听utilise听to strengthen our cybersecurity is MFA. Using this can听drastically reduce the odds that your login information,听often referred to as "credentials",听will be听stolen听and your accounts accessed by attackers.听Since MFA requires extra confirmation, beyond a password, that you are the person you claim to be,听it helps to provide you with an听additional layer of security.

You must register for MFA to access鈥痽our 成人大片鈥疢icrosoft 365 account鈥痑nd applications.听

Step 1. Install an authentication app鈥��

We strongly recommend installing鈥痶he鈥疢icrosoft Authenticator鈥痑pp on your鈥痵mart鈥痯hone.鈥��

鈥疶o do this, visit your app store and type 鈥榓uthenticator application鈥� in the search bar, or鈥痑lternatively鈥�痺ith your camera on your Android or iOS mobile device.鈥��

Step 2. Register for MFA鈥�

MFA works鈥痓y linking your phone number to your Microsoft鈥�365 account鈥痑nd applications. You can choose an authentication method that works鈥痓est for you.鈥�
