Dr Beatrice Tinsley

Known as the 鈥淨ueen of the Cosmos鈥,聽Beatrice聽Tinsley鈥檚 work has had a profound influence on what scientists know about the stars, the聽galaxy,聽and the Universe itself.聽Deciding by the age of 14 that she wanted to be an astrophysicist, she graduated with an MSc in Physics in 1961.聽Despite producing over 100 papers in her short聽14-year聽academic career,聽Beatrice聽struggled to聽receive professional recognition in聽the聽male-dominated world of academia聽in the United States.聽She became a Professor of Astronomy at Yale University, only 3 years before her death聽in 1981.
